Traditional Transhumance Festival on the Alpe di Siusi
Celebration of the traditional transhumance with music and typical festivities.

The lively procession of shepherds and livestock adorned with flowers will parade on 30 September 2023 on the Alpe di Siusi. The event includes markets, music and culinary delights. This traditional transhumance, which has continued unchanged since time immemorial, is an unmissable event for those who wish to immerse themselves in local traditions and customs. The custom is for the transhumance to take place during the 'Rosari-Samstag', the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Around 10.30 a.m., the streets of the Alpe di Siusi in Compaccio will be invaded in a peaceful manner by the 250 or so local animals and their handlers. It will be a festive and colourful onslaught: each cow will be given carefully chosen floral headdresses and cowbells, and the most beautiful specimen will sport the most prominent decoration. The event will include a performance by the Siusi allo Sciliar band, alpine horn players, whip cracking, a farmers' market and a demonstration of rural handicrafts. All this will be accompanied by delicious specialities of the local cuisine.
